You've modified your Miata to breathe better by using combinations of intake, header, exhaust, cams, headwork, and so on. Unfortunately, the factory Miata ECU doesn't add enough extra fuel even though more air is flowing through your engine. The bottom line, if you aren't adding fuel you are not taking full advantage of the expensive modifications you've made.
PowerCard is a very powerful, yet small set of electronics that allows you to take control of the fuel injector – after the ECU. Why is this important? Mazda spent untold amounts of money developing the engine computer to deliver the best performance under every situation. Rather than throw away this expertise as many other systems do, Powercard takes complete advantage of the Miata ECU's computing power.
Powercard uses a unique load based computing methodology. It looks at injector duty cycle and pulse width down-line from the ECU. This tells Powercard what the effective “load” is. Now that Powercard “knows the load”, it can make the adjustments necessary to provide the extra fuel needed to get maximum performance from your modifications.
PowerCard has 3 different modes that correspond to different performance parameters - Low Load (Cruise) Fuel, Transition Fuel and High Load Fuel.
Low Load Fuel - is a light load situation where little or no additional throttle is required such as idle, cruising at a constant speed and so on.
Transition Fuel - This is the area where you are transferring from a light throttle to a heavier throttle and need a proper shot of fuel instantly to accelerate.
High Load Fuel - This is where you are asking for sustained and maximum acceleration.
At the touch of a button you can program the additional fuel necessary for each performance situation. Powercard also allows you to alter transition points as you move from one mode to another.
Installation couldn't be easier. One wire for each fuel injector plus a power and ground. Most installations take 30 minutes or less. Powercard is also completely self diagnostic. If it is installed incorrectly, it will show you.
